Minutes
- Reviewed brake design decisions from winter term
- Decision to go with front-front brake redundancy due to inability to afford Mitsuba motors
- Discussed brake rotor thickness concern (current rotors are 3mm thick but calipers require minimum thickness of 4mm)
- Discussed idea of using a bike brake caliper for the parking brake
- Reviewed steering design decisions from winter term
- Discussed Robin's tierod optimization sketch (bump steer) and steering arm length calculations
- Talked about rack placement and rack extension design (rack position in the x-y plane will be driven by the optimal tierod pivot point. Position along the z axis will be driven by steering arm length
- Steering column must be colapsible and it would be nice if it could tilt. A telescoping steering wheel will not be required
- Reviewd dimension reference sketch
Action items
Brakes
- Source parking brake & have it modeled in CAD. Then hand off to suspension so that the mounting points can be design into the upright
- Source brake bobbins
- Come up with a solution to the rotor thickness issue (manufacture thicker rotor, source different caliper, contact Willwood to ask about risks of using a thinner rotor
Steering
- Compile and document Robin's work on steering geometry from last term (bump steer optimization and steering arm length). Document on confluence and in MS-XXXXX-Dimension reference as necessary
- Design rack extension and how it's coning to mount to chassis
- Design rack mounting fixture
- (Long term action item: design steering column and source steering wheel)
