Updated Vehicle Mass

Note: MS14’s Mass used for Design was 720 kg

Introduction/Context

An updated vehicle mass will help reduce the loads in simulation and therefore reduce stresses.

Reduced stresses help to pass ASC regulations vehicle collision scenarios.

Strategy

  1. List out all relevant masses in the vehicle

    1. focus on the ones we will put into simulations

      1. battery box

        1. reached out to micah. waiting on reply

      2. dynamics assembly

        1. currently recalculating

      3. passengers

        1. fixed by ASC Regs

  2. Find updated masses

 

Tracking History

Total Mass is 568 kg

  • It is missing masses and assumptions/approximations were made for each sub assembly

  • This is an underestimate and should apply safety factor of ~1.5 (judged from intuition :^( )

Conclusions:

  • 200 kg is not feasible

Add on Kevlar, open up announcement into channels for any suggestions to include

5 ounces per square yard

Trying to focus on updating the masses that show up in simulations:

  • Battery box

  • Dynamics Assembly

    • portion that is on A bulkhead

    • portion that is on B bulkhead

Conclusions

  • the dynamics assembly masses in simulation no longer needs to be 100 kg.

    • Maybe lessen it to 50 kg and 70 kg respectively for example.

  • battery box is currently estimated to be 60-65 kg
