Mesh Convergence Study on Tube Solution
Context:
Need to check mesh convergence of simulation results to see if results have fully converged and are accurate
Helps to fully validate that tube solution is not an effective solution
Strategy:
Select extreme cases for vehicle collision scenarios to focus on
Control mesh size of extreme cases vehicle collision scenarios
Run results for selected scenarios and record max stress results
Conclude on feasibility of tube solution
Step 1: Select Extreme Cases of Vehicle Collision Scenarios
Selected Cases | Max Stress (MPa) |
---|---|
Side 30 | 990 |
Front 30 | 1265 |
Top 60 | 2620 |
Step 2 + 3: Mesh Size + Results of Selected Vehicle Collision Scenarios

Step 4: Conclusion on Tube Solution
It is not 100% that we should move on from tube solution.
As mesh size decreases, max stress increases and percent error increases. Simulation results does not converge.
