Single Lap Shear Test

Introduction:

Similar to butt joint testing, the two materials will be bonded together using an adhesive granted that the adhesive has properly been cured at the right temperature, and sufficient time has been amounted for the adhesive to take effectiveness. Within this experiment, we will also be using the Universal Testing Machine (UTM for short) and will test the tensile stress of these carbon fiber coupons. A single lap shear test is when one piece of material is bonded on top of another. A tensile test machine is then used to pull on these two materials to test material deformity as well as strength of the adhesive to fail under stress. Figure below should illustrate what it should look like:

Note: Applying the adhesive as well as combining the two pieces requires some preparation beforehand such as curing, and smoothing out the surface. Read through general test method for single lap shear test for more info.
