Tommy's Notes on Rev 5.1, 7.0, 8.0

Goal of this page is to take notes of:

  1. strange simulation stress behaviour that should be investigated to improve accuracy

  2. common locations of high stress

  3. determine next steps and further reinforcements

Observations

  1. Incorrect FEA setup for Top Cases (Top, Top 30 Wall, Top 60 Wall)

Top 30 and Top 60 consistently experiences high stresses above 1000 MPa.

Top shows a low stress despite being a similar case as Top 30 and Top 60. Maximum stress is also on the bottom tubes when high stresses are usually located near collision object (which would be near top tubes).

Consider investigation of moving collision object closer or further away from chassis to get more realistic/consistent/lower stress results.

2. Rev 7.0 and Rev 8.0 both have similar stress improvement behaviour (from the baseline of Rev 5.1).

They also both are “better than each other” in one different case each.

Consider moving forward with the less complicated/restrictive design and applying more reinforcements afterwards.

We would need to a stage for CAD and a stage for FEA therefore it would be important to consider if we want to invest time into trying to reinforce both options.
