Chassis Post-Welding Analysis

Impact of Inaccuracies in Chassis Welding on Vehicle Collision Simulations

  1. There are inaccuracies with the chassis due to errors in welding process - the geometry isn’t accurate at all places

    1. Safety factors help with accounting for performance

    2. 5 cm of inaccuracy is BIG --- some tubes can be re-welded

    3. Not much can be done if

    4. Double check if the tubes under high stresses are not accurately placed

    5. CAn also adjust the FEA to replicate the currently welded Chassis (something after everything is good)

      1. Check if the tube is critical, if it’s not critical, you can try to accurately model the Chassis at the end

    6. If you want to know the impact of a tube, remove the tube to see if it was responsible for a lot of loading/performance

    7. If it was just one specific load case, you can focus on just that scenario --

      1. If the tube in question only helps out with one or two cases, just remove it from those cases to save on time.

    8. If there are inaccuracies, measure it out then change it into the CAD

      1. It is more work to manufacture the seats and then adjust it after.

  2. I want to aim for a SF of 2 in respect to 415 MPa to account for all unexpected factors
