Single Cell Testing - Suitability Algorithm Part 2

In the first iteration, the algorithm was run for all 1379 cells, looking for outlier cells in each of the 7 data types:

  • Open circuit voltage (OCV)

  • AC impedance

  • DC linear sweep internal resistance (charge)

  • DC linear sweep internal resistance (discharge)

  • DC pulse internal resistance (charge)

  • DC pulse internal resistance (discharge)

  • Weight

An outlier was defined to be a value that was more than 3 standard deviations away from the mean for the given data type. Each outlier was assigned a certain score for each type of test that it was an outlier in. For this revised iteration, a few changes have been made to ensure that more cells can be eliminated (the goal is to get around 900 cells for the final battery box).

  • Outliers are now 0.25 standard deviations away from the mean.

  • If a cell has a total outlier score of greater than (but not equal to) 1, the algorithm will recommend for that cell to be removed.

  • Each internal resistance outlier now has a score of 0.5 (previously it was 0.25). Since the outliers between all the internal resistance tests are usually the same cells, they would have a combined score of between 1 and 2, ensuring that they can be eliminated.
