Roof and Trunk Tilting Project Planning

Overview

After the 2-14-2021 meeting where it was determined that the trunk panel would remain in a conventional setup, and that tilting it would be done after it was to be detached - this document was created to plan out the next steps for the trunk prop and now includes an accessory tilting structure and the roof prop and tilting mechanism

Roof Hinge

The hinge mechanism upon which the roof panel will tilt about

  • Conduct further analysis on feasibility four bar linkage hinge

  • If needed revisit some other hinge designs and conduct feasibility analysis

  • Concepting and research largely done

  • Conducting preliminary analysis and analyzing feasibiltiy

Roof Prop

A prop / rod that will support the roof panel when it is tilted

  • Research methods into ways we can ensure the inner rod will not slide out from the outer rod

  • Conduct hand calculations and preliminary FEA to ensure roof prop can endure loading

  • Concepting and research done

  • In preliminary design phase

Bracket - Prop to Chassis

Mounting Bracket that will connect the roof prop to the chassis

  • Build upon and refine existing and/or create new concepts

  • Select concept to move into preliminary design

  • Research Design for Adhesives and/or Fastening methods

  • Conduct hand calculations

  • Concepting largely done

  • Moving into preliminary design of bracket and fastening methods

Bracket - Prop to Roof Panel

Mounting Bracket that will connect the roof prop to the roof panel

  • Refine existing concept (if needed, create new concepts)

  • Research Design for Adhesives

Roof Hinge Mounting

Structures that will house / be the mounting point for the roof hinge

  • Define requirements for supplementary mounting panel (made from CF)

  • Define how to mount supplementary mounting panel onto Chassis

Trunk Prop

A prop / rod that will support the roof panel when it is open

  • Conduct hand calculations to spec out appropriately sized gas springs

  • Determine mounting location of brackets that is compatible with gas spring size and desired trunk angle

  • Concepting and research done
