ASC regs on BPS strobe sequencing: https://www.americansolarchallenge.org/ASC/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/ASC2021-Regs-EXTERNAL-RELEASE-A.pdf (9.4.G), (8.2.c.3), (8.6.a.6) - important! scrutineering!

Rough notes:

  • During battery fault where BPS opened main power switch, BPS Strobe and BPS Fault Driver Indication MUST go on

  • VDR: after BPS fault, car goes into aux state which is still powering PD

  • During aux, they can transition ONLY into off state - IMPORTANT - from BPS fault state you CANNOT transition back into main power / relays closed

  • Battery fault is resolved only by turning car off then on (and resolving the fault physically)

  • Strobe light is the strobe light on power distro, fault driver indication will be on a spare in power distro

  • See BPS fault startup on VDR

  • Must check for BPS fault on every startup (really continuously)

Sequencing:

  • When a BPS fault occurs, the relays are opened and the car goes into the aux state (powered off the aux battery - PD, centre console, telemetry powered), the BPS strobe light is on and the BPS fault driver indication is on

    • BPS strobe light is the strobe on power distro

    • BPS fault driver indication will be on one of the spares on power distro

  • During the BPS fault, the driver must NOT be able to transition back into main power directly - the relays cannot be closed again while the BPS strobe light is on. They must ONLY be able to transition to off, at which point the BPS strobe turns off.

  • When the car is turned back on, if the fault was cleared, it goes to main power and everything is fine, if it wasn’t cleared, it goes back to the BPS fault state.

  • See the VDR, BPS fault startup section at the end.
