Background Information

The front suspension clevises connect the upper and lower control arms to the chassis.

Requirements

Safety factor of 3

Loading and Boundary Conditions

See previous revisions of this component for derivation of loading conditions.

A frictional contact with a coefficient of friction of 0.61 is applied between the bolt surface and clevis according to the Machinery's Handbook for steel on aluminum.

Case A: Tension

Case B: Compression

Cylindrical supports are constrained in the radial direction, and are fixed in both axial and tangential directions.

Conclusion & Recommendation

The redesigned clevis passes simulations quite well. It is slightly overbuilt but this is mainly driven by geometric constraints with chassis/control arm interfaces
