Steering Arm Analysis
Summary
Analysis and more explanations to be updated
Background Information
The steering arm connects the tie rod to the upright. It is the member that turns the wheel of the car when the driver turns the steering wheel.
Requirements
Safety factor of 3.
Loading and Boundary Conditions
The loading condition was 658N. This was found by finding the torque around the king pin axis based on the forces acting on the wheels in the braking/cornering case (worst case scenario). The total moment caused by the wheel forces were set equal to the moment caused by the steering arm. The force was then found.
Created a bearing load on the clevis mounting area. Created a dummy plate with the same edge radius as the upright. Fixed the back of the bolts and the back of the plate.
