Module Balance Taps
Functionality:
Balance taps or balance plugs are used to measure the voltage of every cell in the pack and allows individual charging or discharging of each cell in the battery pack.
Balance Tabs are Points where the wires connect to busbars
They use d-dots measure Voltage of every pack.
Location:
Balance taps are located near the busbars, balance wires connect to busbars. The balance wires are used to measure the voltage of every cell in the pack
The wires will run from these points to centre of the module on the top where they will connect to an interface board containing connectors to the module balance taps and AFE’s(AFE meaning under terminology)
Terminology:
AFE
Analog front-end is a set of analog signal conditioning circuitry that uses sensitive analog amplifiers, often operational amplifiers, filters, and sometimes application-specific integrated circuits for sensors, radio receivers, and other circuits to provide a configurable and flexible electronics functional block, needed to interface a variety of sensors to an, antenna, analog to digital converter or in some cases to a microcontroller.
Balance tabs vs balance plugs:
They both have the same idea however they are referred as balance plugs when the whole battery is contained in one unit and balance tabs when the battery have multiple units.
