MAKE SURE NICKEL STRIPS ARE PURE NICKEL!

  • Lower resistance

  • Won’t rust or corrode (nickel plated steel corrodes when the top nickel layer gets scratched)

A quick and easy way to tell pure nickel strip from nickel-plated steel

  • Nickel plated steel sparks when cut by a dremel, pure nickel does not

  • Can also scrape off the top layers, and soak in salt bath for 24 hours and see if rust forms

  • One cool idea is using some magnets to hold spools of nickel strips together when they’re stored (since they’re magnetic (steel is also magnetic so no point in testing magnetism here))
