VHB Tape - Material Characterization

Gochermann suggest (and offers) 3M VHB tape used to mount array panels onto the top of the roof. Thickness of tape is approximately 1.1 mm.

3M VHB tape is a family of double-side foam tapes that are durable and elastic foam based tapes, behaving both as a vicious liquid and elastic solid. The tape is based on an acrylic core.

The solar array will undergo large thermal cycles each day during use. The tape must be durable in terms of heat expansion, will have minimal lift during driving and high wind speeds.

Sealing

Gochermann recommends using Sikaflex 291 to seal module gaps and prevent water from getting under the modules. Composites Canada carries it and we previously purchased it for MSXII from there.
