Dashboard Design Sprint (Oct 31, 2020)
Ultimate goal: To produce a final 2D representation of the dashboard in order to proceed with detailed design.
First hour: Discuss aesthetics, user experience and luxury features
Second hour: Manufacturing and materials
Third hour: Testing and validation and final mockup
Knee clearance
We want the dash to be simple
If design is too intricate, we probably won’t get it done in time
Things to note:
Driver display needs to be visible based on steering wheel position
Steering wheel hasn’t been designed yet, but we know based on rules and regs that it can’t look like a ferrari wheel
Don’t want dashboard to obstruct foot pedals
Thinking of having the dash end higher up than it would on the passenger side
Mounting of overhang with top enclosure (pictured below):
Black = area we glue overhang for driver display to top dash enclosure
Blue = driver display screens
Red = enclosures
Ports on driver side:
Question: Is infotainment screen going to be mounted vertically or horizontally?
Idea: Having the screen be adjustable (can move back and forth for versatility)
Ventilation:
This area (pictured below) needs to allow for air flow and also needs to be able to withstand a person’s weight
Nothing should be in the way / obstruct it
Cup holder / phone holder / mask holder:
Placed on bottom panel since catamaran cover side is not flush with the bottom panel
