Dashboard - Meeting Notes

BIG MEETING NOTES DUMP:

Old stuff (should be in the doc above):

Dashboard meeting (11/28/2020)

  • Start transferring stuff from google docs to confluence

  • Organize all of the links Renzo sent

    • For switches, find dimensions, don't need CAD

  • Learn about surface modelling

Goals for this week:

  • Kenneth:

    • Finish screen

    • Cupholder:

      • Start concepting cupholder

      • Cupholder will be attached to side of catamaran, so make removable potentially and if not, needs to be really strong bc it'll probably be hit during egress test

      • For mounting, potentially slide in and click into place or screw into place

      • Measure diameter of cupholder in car for reference

      • Minimize material used bc 3D printing

        • Hollow cylinder is probably not most efficient

  • Joy:

Start working on designing storage system

  • Cordelia:

Looking into mounting screens

Dashboard meeting (11/14/2020)

IMPORTANT: when designing, need to design so it can be assembled / manufactured

  • Continue working on skeleton

  • Work on luxury features

    • Modelling screen

    • Modelling cup holders

      • Need to figure out how to mount on catamaran cover so it won't break during egress test

      • Revising current design and driver side will not have phone holder --> design 2 diff cup holders

  • Can start designing driver display housing

    • Start doing rough sketches

    • One piece which goes on the back

    • Needs a lip on top which extends past screen

    • Can start rough CAD for it

    • Need to figure out how to mount screens (will be part of the enclosure)

  • Can start on fan covers

    • Renzo will put fan CAD in dash GrabCAD

Dashboard meeting (11/7/2020)

  • Kenneth model the screen to get solidworks practice

  • Ask Catherine Cai for grabCAD access if Leif doesn't respond

  • Try to create skeleton assy and get measurements and put into grabCAD

  • Start looking into materials if we have time

Micah's feedback:

  • Should the driver have a phone accessible?

  • Worried about fitting everything in the space - displays, fans, enclosures, etc.

  • There will be boards (circuit boards) behind the center display as well, so we'll need a way to access that

  • Would those cupholders or phone mounts be in the way or get destroyed easily during egress (since lots of testing)

  • I think this dash will also have to incorporate the mounts for the side lights and cameras

Dashboard meeting (10/24/2020)

Items discussed:

  • for concepting we want a pretty final 2D concept and then go into 3D right away

  • need to make sure merge points are seamless

  • need to decide mounting of dashboard

    • rn there are no bars in the model for mounting

  • need to figure out how to enclose electrical components

  • wires are not modelled / will not be modelled

  • focus on modeling exterior enclosure first

Tasks:

  • continue sketching and research

  • research some materials which are commonly used for dashboards

    • this will help with designing bc don't want to waste time if design doesn't work with material

For next week:

  • renzo's idea: design sprint on a sat for 3 hours to get a final 2D mockup to get a more cohesive design and also saves time

    • currently set from 6 to 9 next saturday (31st)

Dashboard meeting (10/10/2020)

Tasks to be completed for Oct 17, 2020 (next Saturday):

  • Continue to research what needs to go into dash / materials used for dash

  • Continue sketching up ideas (whoever has time to do so :D)

  • I know it’s reading week next week and exams are probably spread throughout the month / going to be next next week, so pls study :D (i.e. this should not be your priority !!)

  • Infotainment screen is 24” acer touch screen

  • Kenneth and Joy are going to start looking at the ports and outlets and try to find info and SODPRT files for them and put into GrabCAD and create documentation (most of these will be supplied by Molex according to Renzo)

  • Come up with essential and luxury items we want for dashboard

Dashboard meeting (10/03/2020)

Tasks to be completed for Oct 10, 2020 (next Saturday):

  • Search up a bunch of dashboards from cars we like (esp electric cars)

  • Research what needs to go into dash / materials used for dash

  • Potentially start sketching up ideas (whoever has time to do so :D)

  • I’ll make a new timeline since we are running real far behind :,(

Dashboard meeting (09/26/2020)

Tasks to be completed for Oct 3, 2020 (next Saturday):

  • Search up a bunch of dashboards from cars we like (esp electric cars)

  • Splitting up parts for pedal board enclosure, driver display area, infotainment display area, front electronics enclosure and catamaran cover integration

    • Make a list of the different components each part should have

  • Ask hardware about positioning of boards in 3D
