  • 1/4" thick square tubing makes it much easier to machine
  • M8's all around
  • Easy to vice for manufacturing
  • Some tolerancing already built in
  • Can probably get away with less thickness, just concerned about tear out failure

Tie Rod

Currently finding tube stock that a) isn't overkill or b) has the right ID for an M8 thread is difficult. Especially because it has to fit our M8 rod ends.

Few options for our tie rod:

  1. We use a tube, weld 2 shortened rods with the same OD as the ID of the tube on the ends.then we have space to make a M8 hole on the rod.
  2. Go for a rod instead of a tube and thread the ends, and switch our rod end selection.

This is the only way we can pass sims and use the correct rod ends for our angular displacement requirements.

Steering Arm

  • To be CNC'ed from 7075 Aluminum
  • M8 shoulder bolt (8mm shoulder diameter) to be used to attach clevis end to ball joint rod end on tie rod
  • 2x M6 bolts for attaching to the upright
  • All holes are clearance holes
  • Currently the geometry may make it difficult to manufacture. I.e. for one face to lie flat on the upright face, it needs to be on a slight angle

Fastening

M8's almost everywhere except for the steering arm mount and the rack(imperial).

Linear Bearing Mounting Plates

  • Two pairs of these mounting plates to be bolted with thru holes on chassis with M6
  • It's currently at 2.5mm thick so it can be made using sheet metal brake
  • Linear bearing gets mounted on using 4 bolts and nuts
    • can speculate weld nuts if too much hassle in assembly?
