FSU-05/07/19 Upper Control Arm Assembly (WIP)
- Malcolm Park (Deactivated)
The UCA
Model Version: 8.0
Material: AISI 4130 steel, annealed at 865C
Yield Strength: 460 MPa
Validation: June 15th 2023
Fixtures
On Spherical Faces fixtures on the bearing wall (both bearings)
Note: there are “dummy screws” inserted to simulate the potential interactions between the UCA parts and the screws
the Jens method
Virtual wall fixture on inside of bearing (both bearings)
Local Contact interaction between the screw head and the countersink on the bearing cap (both caps and all screws)
Bonded component interactions on the UCA plate, Bearing adapters, and Bearing Housing
I imagine these pieces will be welded together or something like that - MP
Remember to remove the global bond at the start of the sim as not every part is bonded

Fx & Fy:
Fx and Fy are first combined into a single force using trigonometry to determine the magnitude and angle the force acts at, called Fxy
Smile Khatri has a good example in their UCA report from the week of may 29th
Fxy applied at the inside of the UCA Bearing Adapter part, normal to a plane that is at the angle of the applied force
The force is only applied to one half of the cylindrical face
Fz:
Applied normal to the UCA Bearing Adapter part, on the side in which the direction of the force is acting
