Dash Internal Support

  • brainstorm internal structural components to maintain dash rigidity and lightness

  • leaning towards flat fibreglass panels with various cutouts

  • Take into account where glove compartment storage and electrical enclosure will be and incorporate into panel design

  • also try to brainstorm ventilation routing

  • go with 60-80% of 1/4" thickness

  • Leaning towards big parts that we cut away after

Progress (as of March 20th, 2021):

Driver’s Side:

Still unclear on what the thickness of dashboard is - don’t know how many internal supports that can fit

For now, considering two for driver’s side

As seen on 1), there is a concept of two teeth-like openings on top of each other.

  • Cables would fit in each ‘tooth’ and not get tangled or move around much

  • May allow for better cable management

  • Could label each teeth for certain grouping of cables

Same teeth-like openings would be present on 2) if necessary

Passenger Side:

Same teeth-like openings as seen in Driver’s Side

This CAD of dashboard shell does not indicate where glove compartment storage will be - can’t tell how many internal supports can fit

For now, am considering two panels.

Again, there would be two panels, one on each side, each with teeth-like openings

Middle Dash (Just an idea):

A tent-like support that ‘bridges the gap’ between passenger and driver sides

Second picture shows what it might look like, since the first picture may be confusing

  • Would support the middle dash and keep it rigid

  • Unsure if this is feasible due to infotainment screen/wirings

Notes:

Current total internal support panels: 5
