Background
One of the authorized resellers of Sunpower solar cells after Sunpower made the switch to only selling 1500 cells minimum. No longer in the business (see other).
Timeline
Nov 21, 2019 (outgoing): Initial email to Sunpower requesting information on how to purchase cells for our array.
Nov 21, 2019 (incoming): Response from Yi Pang (yi.pang@sunpower.com) redirecting us to Sunnivatech, an authorized distributor as Sunpower now only sells in quantities of 1500 cells.
Nov 21, 2019 (incoming): Initial offering from Sunnivatech (pricing below) from Grace Li (info@sunnivatech.com)
Nov 27, 2019 (outgoing): Reply to Sunnivatech asking if there is a possibility of receiving a sponsorship discount as a student team
Nov 27, 2019 (incoming): Sunnivatech states that their pricing is for universities and not students. States that only 300 Me1s are in stock and provides pricing for Le1s as an alternative for our requested quantity.
Dec 24, 2019 (outgoing): Notifying Sunnivatech that we will not be purchasing from them due to our need for 326 Me1s and Sunnivatech cannot meet this.
Dec 25, 2019 (incoming): Sunniva notifies that they have 450 Me1s available with 8% discount (6.99 a cell). This email was not responded to as we had already reached a deal with Gochermann for solar cells.
Pricing and Discussions/Discounts
Our array has 326 cells and we will have to purchase 450 total cells ($3,420 for Me1s, $2,475 for Le1s). Sunniva did not offer sponsorship discounts to the team and sold in batches of 150 cells per package. Shipping costs were $95.
Later emails (after a month gap) had Sunniva provide an 8% discount ($6.99 per Me1 cell)
Other
