Interiors Mandate W2021
The Interiors team is responsible for anything inside the vehicle that interacts with the driver and passengers.
Our goal is to maximize efficiency, reliability and practicality.
However, our underlying mission (same as that of the entire team) is to maximize student potential and development.
Term Projects
1. CATAMARAN COVER - MANUFACTURING
Led by: RENZO VILLANOY ( INTERIORS LEAD )
This project consists of the entire fibreglass enclosure that will house the car’s battery pack as well as the accompanying electronics.
2. SEATS - MANUFACTURING
Led by: ASHER LAI, SHEILA AFROS, KIMIA BARZEGAR
This project consists of the 4 custom seats of the car that will be manufactured from carbon fibre as well as the 4 ballasts.
3. DOORS - MANUFACTURING
Led by: GEOFFREY LIU, JOY HE
This project consists of the 4 doors and accompanying latches as well as the interior door panels.
4. DASHBOARD - DESIGN
Led by: ALI ARSHAD
This project consists of the full dashboard which includes the main carbon fibre body, infotainment and driver display screens, storage, electrical integration and ventilation.
5. TRIM - DESIGN
Led by: LOVISA ESKANDAR
This project consists of the aesthetic trim pieces and coverings of the car which include the flooring, ceiling cover, and all material finishes.
Member Responsibilities
Depending on whether you’re onsite (in the bay) or offsite (remote), you will gain exposure to different elements.
For onsite members, you’ll gain exposure to:
Composites manufacturing
Adhesives
3D printing
Working with electrical components
General hands-on manufacturing
Testing of materials
Attending weekly team check-ins and general meetings over the web (mandatory)
For offsite members, you’ll gain exposure to:
Design and analysis of components including:
Composites (fibreglass, carbon fibre) and metals
3D printed parts
Solidworks
Exposure to the supplier-interfacing process
Attend weekly team check-ins and general meetings over the web (mandatory)
Required Skills
You are:
A student passionate about design (product, mechanical and industrial is a bonus)
A hard worker, with the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision (but we’re always here to help)
A quick problem solver who isn't afraid to think outside the box
Willing to learn new skills and improve your existing skills
Strong time management skills for daily tasks and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
We don't expect members to have anything other than the above skills, however, the following are nice to have:
Basic understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly methodologies (DFA) (combined, they’re commonly referred to as DFMA)
Someone with exposure to a CAD package (SolidWorks preferred)
Knowledge of solid mechanics (stress analysis, failure methods)
Exposure to rapid prototyping (3D printing)
Exposure to technical drawing creation
