FSGP 2019 Retrospective
Dynamics
Steering
- Steering column separated during egress scrutineering in 3 different places
- Nylon shear pin came out of the hole instead of breaking as expected, may require longer pin
- Safety wire failure for the set screws holding steering column in u-joint or possibly never tight to begin with causing the column to come out - reduce friction locking parts in the future
- Collar on steering shaft was not tightened/possibly does not do much
Brakes
- DFA for brakes assembly, bleeding and removing parts took nearly 3 hours
- Have backups for critical parts (ex: brake rotors)
- Bleeding should be done properly, according to instructions/manuals and multiple people should know how
Suspension
- Swivel joint came out of the shock, compromising the rear suspension
- Was not touched since installation, should look into adding these parts to a maintenance checklist
Motors
- Motor shoulderhead bolts sheared due to bolts coming out and hub with wheel separating from rotor, spacers were used to prevent this but were not in place during competition - spacers were created and installed at competition
- Motor crash due to air gap collapse - NGM 150 had to be reharnessed and spacers installed for air gap
Aerobody
- Transporting caused most of the replaced clickbonds to break off - were replaced again but significantly less strength (possibly due to DP420 vs real clickbond adhesive)
- Issues due to puncturing/sanding too much material for reapplying clickbonds
- Better jig to transport the car in the trailer
- Panel warping
- Trunk panel fell through the side panels multiple times
Other
- DFA for trailing arm, bolt disappeared into a gap between the trailing arm and motor
- More wrenches for appropriate sizes
- Organize spare parts and components better
