How Midnight Sun has pivoted during COVID
Scene 1
Shot: wide-angle, drone shot
Audio: Since the beginning of Midnight Sun…
Scene 2
Shot: Students in work bay, old comp and recent comp footage
Audio: …our student design team has dedicated its time and energy to building solar vehicles. Our roots run back to 1988, since then, we've built 12 vehicles that have raced across 2 continents for a total of over 60,000km powered by the sun.
Scene 3
Shot: Midnight Sun XIV Rendering of Design, prior comp journey snippet
Audio: Our goal in 2020 was to build our thirteenth vehicle, our first-ever, four-seater cruiser class. To race in the American Solar Challenge 2020.
Scene 4
Shot: Zoom video recordings
Music: A little somber
Audio: But like every organization, COVID’s impacts have cancelled the challenge and have caused our student-led team to re-shuffle what we can get done virtually.
Scene 5
Shot: Zoom video recordings
Music: more hopeful
Audio: But COVID could not stop our goal of finishing our vehicle. Spring 2020 was our first-ever virtual onboarding of over 100 new members.
Scene 6
Shot: Various cool pieces of design and tech, footage of our fun virtual team socials
Music: epic
Audio: Our workarounds of not being able to physically build the car have allowed us to prepare for what we will get done once COVID restrictions lift - that includes design, finding manufacturers, and virtual team socials to ensure our community is held strong.
Scene 7
Shot: “But we need your help”
Audio: Thousands of dollars are needed in order to make MSXIV a reality to manufacture the car. On September (insert date) 2020, Midnight Sun will be launching our second crowdfunding platform. If you’re looking to financially support the once in a lifetime student experience of building a solar vehicle from scratch. This is it. Help us push the boundaries of solar-powered transportation.

Scene 1:
Shot: wide-angle, drone shot
Audio: Since the beginning of Midnight Sun, our student design team has dedicated it's time and energy in building solar vehicles. Our roots run back to 1988, since then, we've built 12 vehicles that have raced across 2 continents for a total of over 60,000km powered by the sun.
Scene 2:
Shot: Student team interaction in bay
Audio: Our 100% student-run organization proudly represents over 12 departments of UW. Despite the tangible creation that's put out every two years
Scene 3:
Shot: Show old solar cars pictures, quickly transitioning
Audio: Our ultimate goal is to promote learning through the application of course concepts and creating a community that drives this once in a lifetime experience for the student body in achieving one common goal - to build Canada's best solar-electric vehicle, all, from scratch.
Shot: CAD Design render of MS14
Audio: Our goal this year was to push ourselves past our comfort zones with building the first-ever four-seater solar vehicle to race for the 2020 American Solar Car challenge…
Scene 5:
Shot: Video recording of multiple different kinds of sub-team meetings
Audio: …and like every organization, our teams have had to maneuver around virtual work from home, but work has not stalled. Our new objective is to race in FSGP and with the challenges of building our first ever 4-seater, we've put in over 30 000 hours in design and engineering to ensure the vehicle is safe, smooth, reliable, efficient, and user friendly.
