Structure:
This page is to stockpile all relevant simulation data on the chassis to maintain a record of what alterations have been made to the chassis, and what effect it had on the stresses.
Each entry in the table should contain:
- The chassis version number
- Recent corrections to the chassis/simulation, and the person responsible for the change
- An image of the isometric perspective of the chassis with the max stress concentration, and other critical stresses probed (front, rear, side and top collisions)
- Any other relevant comments
Simulations:
- All simulations to be done with 4130 Steel (Yield strength is approximately 460 MPa)
- Mesh type: Tetrahedron
- Load: 30 000N in respective direction
- Support type: Fixed

Simulation Data
Chassis Version Number | Person Responsible | Changes made | Front collision | Side collision | Top Collision | Rear Collision | Interesting Images | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Version 14 | Matt Suski | Tube Sizes Altered (set to 1.050" and 0.0625" thickness) Combine tool utilized | ||||||
Version 13 | Ritu Shah | Max stress is in one corner (top collision), not symmetrical to other side. Suggests that this is an issue with the modeling of tubes rather than structure. Max side = 241 Max top = 316 Rear max = 195 Front max = 95 | ||||||
Version 13-2-Copy | Tried inserting fillet at front joint but results were worse (i.e. max with fillet ~ 132 MPa). Thus, tried same tests without fillets and achieved lower stress results than in V13. |
