Interiors Design Sprint
Sprint Goals:
Get members familiar with the tools and skills used to design interiors components
Getting acquainted with SolidWorks and general CAD workflow
Learning to make your own design decisions along with applying feedback from peers and leads
Working within deadlines, having made progress with each review
Documenting progress using a design log
Design a part that will contribute to the functionality of MSXV
Topics to be Covered:
Concept Sketches → Design → 3D Printed Prototypes
SolidWorks CAD design
Component attachment strategies
Possible load calculation
Sprint Introduction:
You are tasked with designing a mounting bracket for the vehicle’s rear view camera. The bracket should be stiff enough such as to minimize under vibrational loading. The bracket must also give clear access to the buttons on the rear view camera.
The Setup:
The camera will be mounted to the tail of the Aerobody. There is an aluminum L bracket at the tail of the car. This component will be what your mount attaches to.
Timeline:
Please feel free to set up independent reviews with leads or other members. You are not limited to the scheduled reviews.
Week 1:
Expected Review Date: Saturday, September 23, 2023
Begin with conceptual design. Decide how you want to solve the design while keeping in mind constraints and criteria.
Bring To Review/Action Items:
Initial concept sketches/diagrams (can be hand drawn/digitally made)
Begin looking into SolidWorks CAD basics
Attend CAD 101 on Wednesday, September 20, 2023
Week 2:
Expected Review Date: Saturday, September 30, 2023
By this checkpoint, the expectation is more fleshed out concept design as well as beginning CAD design.
Bring To Review/Action Items:
Fleshed out concepts (concept will be selected to CAD)
Completed CAD 101 training
Initial CAD design
Week 3:
Expected Review Date: Saturday, October 7, 2023
This week marks the first complete CAD pass. By this week a completed CAD model should be ready for a design review (this is a goal, as it may take people a longer time to get acquainted with 3D modelling)
Bring To Review:
Completed concept CAD
Mounting method solidified and ready for review
Thinking about 3D printing orientation
Additional:
Once you have completed this design sprint and are well versed in the Solid of Works, you can reach out to your leads to pick up more projects/parts on interiors.
Design Log:
Keep a design log for all progress! A design log will help organize all content for presentation.
