Testing Plan & Results
This page will be used to document the tests that should be run on the latest revision to ensure full functionality and reliable operation. The results will be summarized with a table and graphs if needed.
Functionality Test
Over/Under Voltage Protection
This will be to test the OV/UP settings on the LTC4417. The UV/OV points are currently set to the following values with resistor dividers:
Supply | Undervoltage | Overvoltage |
---|---|---|
DC-DC | 11.16V | 12.84V |
Aux Battery (NiMH) | 8.46V | 14.31V |
To test, lower and raise the voltage of each rail and record when the nVALID pin changes. Record the results in a table below.
Supply | Undervoltage | Overvoltage |
---|---|---|
DC-DC | 11.10V | 12.62V |
Aux Battery (NiMH) | 8.46V | 14.36V |
Temperature Rise Under Load
Our DC-DC supplies can supply up to 20.83A of current at 12V. We should test that the board can function without any significant temperature rises at up to 21A of current at 12V. The temperature can be recorded with thermistors placed on the important components (e.g. pmos controlled by the Power Path, as well as near power planes), or more ideally, with a thermal camera to see the temperature rise across the board under different loads. Record values as needed below. Tests should be run separately for the protected (up to 5A), and unprotected (up to 21A)
Power Rail | Current | Output Transistor Temperature | Power Plane Temperate | ... |
---|---|---|---|---|
Protected | 1A | |||
2A | ||||
3A | ||||
4A | ||||
5A | ||||
Unprotected | 5A | |||

Power Supply Switch Over
This will be to document how long the LTC4417 takes to switch between the protected and unprotected rails. Tests should be run in both directions to simulate startup and shutdown, and at various loads. Record the voltage where the switch occurred, as well as a capture showing the switch. Tests should be run for a 50% load and 100% load.
Test Case | Current | Voltage at which switching occured | Time till voltage is fully switched over |
