Vision

Background Information

We want headlights which resemble regular cars. Due to low power requirement, we will most likely be making our own headlights. This entails finding LED lights that meet specifications and mounting them. Additionally, we will need a clear cover flush with the aerobody over the lights.

The style, orientation, type of lighting is to be decided by the headlights team. But final arrangement should resemble regular car lights.

The final design must include headlights and turn signals

A clear cover which conforms to the aerobody are over the lights must be researched.

The lights mounts to either aerobody or chassis.

Project Requirements

ASC and WSC Requirements

ASC and WSC only have requirements based on stop lights and turn signals; there doesn't appear to be even a requirement for the inclusion of headlights. The only mention of headlights was in ASC regulations in regard to the lead escort vehicle.

Internal Requirements

These are requirements driven by Midnight Sun.

  • $200 per headlight
  • 12V, 50 mA

Criteria

  • Aesthetics
  • Cost, lower is better

Headlights Sourcing

To be determined before F16 term ends.

There don't seem to be any strong lights which can operate on only 50mA. The headlight with the lowest found current still required 750mA, although it could operate on 9V and would cost 300$US for the pair. [http://www.customdynamics.com/trubeam_motorcycle_led_headlamp.htm#7_L.E.D._Halo_Headlight_Trim_Ring_With_Built_In_Turn_Signals, scroll to TruBEAM 4.5" Passing Lamps]
