Vision

Background Information

As part of the chassis, we need to design attachment methods for all electrical and mechaical components. This will include the electrical circuit boards. These boards will vary in size however for design purposes the boards will be contained in rectangular boxes. Our job will be to create components that will securely hold these boards to the chassisIt has been determined that the circuit board mounts will be pretty trivial relative to the battery box mount, As the battery box will contain most of the electricla equipment. As such, it is considerable larger, expect dimensions of about 1.5' by 2.5' by 0.5', however it will still be a rectangular box. During the meeting on October 13th we will meet with the team creating the battery box to determine rough dimensions

Update (Jan 21, 2017): See Battery Box Mount - Design Selection for design selection and analysis

Edit: From 2017-01-14 Battery Box Size determined layout and distribution of battery modules in battery box.

  • We will be using 2 boxes, each housing 18 of the 36 modules
  • Rough Dimensions: 24" x 18" x 5" (L x W x H)
  • Approx weight of 40 kg per box, based on 80 kg estimate for both boxes (Weight Budget)

Goal

Design and create mounting components for circuit boardsthe enclosures.

Project Requirements

Rayce Regulations

  • No direct regulations are involved with this project

Internal Requirements

These are requirements driven by Midnight Sun.

  • Must securely attach to chassis (assume chassis is made up of 1" OD square tubing)
  • Must securely prevent motion in all directions once boards are installedboards electrical enclosures from coming loose, even in the event of a crash.
  • Provide vibration dampening for the electrical enclosures.
  • Enclosures must be removable, cannot

    permanatly

    permanently attach the

    boards

    enclosure to the car

  • Must be scalable, ie design must be applicable to different sized boads (that are rectangular boxes)
  • must not intrusively attach to the rectangular boxes (cannot bolt into them)

Soft requirements

These criteria would be nice to have but not critical to the project's success:

  • Must be as light as possible
  • Must be somewhat simple for ease of manufacturing

Deliverables

  • Concept sketches of design (1 per team member) - OCT 13 (If you would like to create a solidworks model of this design by the 13th that would be great but not required)
