Goals
- Measure the current of the main battery pack accurately
- Isolate the high voltage bus from the low voltage bus
Background and Strategic Fit
Current sensing is important to determine if the battery cells are within the safe current limits and to make an accurate state of charge model (SOC). Any direct measurements that tap onto the high voltage bus must be properly isolated from the low voltage system. We should have accurate current measurements over the entire expected current range. The minimum current draw will be from the low voltage system when the motors are off and the highest current draw from the motors fully on and the battery pack close to empty (15 kW/(2.5 V/cell * 36 cells) = 166.67 A). To be conservative, the circuit should be able to provide accurate measurements from ~1-5 A to ~200 A without significant errors.
