Designs so far

I made this clamp for the bigger wires. It uses screws to open and close. It also requires a screw to be fastened to the chassis.

the big opening is 28mm in diameter, the smaller holes are 5mm in diameter, and the hole for fastening to the chassis is 10mm in diameter.

I have another design for smaller wires I am currently working on. So far is relies on the 3D printer plastic’s ability to keep shape, meaning its gonna need to flex to get wires in and out.

Cables in hinges

Cable tracks

Good for cables that go around hinges. Cable tracks can provide support and keep a uniform motion when moving around a corner.

Cables in hot places -  don’t worry about this, they got it.

Flame retardant sleeve

It is also resistant to auto fluids, chemicals, abrasion, and self-extinguishing which allows you to secure wires, cables, and small hoses effectively and with confidence.

Good for running cables along framing. These clamps are pretty sexy because 100 of them cost $72.

Not sure about the length they come in though, but they would be good to keep cables that go around corners from bouncing around.

Ways to fasten clamps to car

  1. zip ties

  2. screws

  3. epoxy

Pros of zip ties

  • easy to use

  • cheap

  • light

  • some are good with heat

Cons of zip ties

  • not very sturdy, cannot hold wires away from surfaces

  • most of them are 1 time use

Pros of screws

  • cheap

  • sturdy

  • reusable

  • can be used to hold a clamp frame (used to keep wires away from any surfaces)

Cons of screws

  • would need to drill a lot of holes in the chassis/panels

  • if used wrong, they can cause damage that will be hard to fix

  • if the screws are used too much they can become stripped and damage whatever they are being put into.

Pros of epoxy

  • super strong

  • cheap

  • easy to apply

  • less affected by liquids and chemicals

  • will stick to many different materials

Cons of epoxy

  • this is a permanent option

  • if messed up, there would be random blobs of glue everywhere, which would make it difficult to work

  • will weaken if exposed to sunlight

Criteria and constraints so far

  • Keep things away from chassis

  • Stationary and away from surfaces

  • Widest to motor controllers, 7mm cables x3

  • Smallest bundles of 1.8mm cables x4 minimum

  • 5mm away from any surfaces

  • Should be able to be 3D printed

  • No labels
