This page details the connection information regarding the energy meter which will reside between the Elcon charger and the J1772 connector.

As per ASC2020 Regulations:

All multi-occupant vehicles will be required to carry an onboard AC energy meter provided by the Event Organizers. The meter will have a wide measurement range for charging at 120- 240 VAC and up to 40A. The meter enclosure is a 6.7” x 10.63” x 4.33" box which must be installed inline between the J1772 vehicle power inlet and the AC input on the onboard vehicle charger.

The box contains a NEMA 14-50P plug input and a NEMA 14-50R output. The meter must be positioned such that, “its display can be read at the conclusion of each external energy charge.” This box will be provided by the event organizers and is expected to be installed in the solar car during Scrutineering.

Onboard MOV Energy Meter Overview

Attached above is the energy meter overview provided by the organizers. It will cost around $500 to replace this piece of equipment.

Shown above is the internal connection details of the metering box.

This meter weighs 6lbs and has a connector to connector length of 27”.

To integrate this system, all MOV solar cars must feature an inline NEMA 14-50 connection between the J1772 Vehicle Power Inlet and the Onboard Vehicle Charger. When the car is not at an ASC event, the NEMA 14-50 connector will be directly connected as shown below.
