The purpose of this page is to show the FEA done on the Brake Cable Mounting plate discussed in this page (Boomerang option). I will be checking to see what the maximum load of this part is.

Material: 6061-T6 Aluminium, Yield Strength: 2.750E8 N/m^2.

Fixtures:

On Flat Faces:

On bolt heads & contact area with angled brake caliper mount.

Virtual Walls:

Virtual wall on hex head bolt inner circle (16mm diameter):

Virtual Walls:

Force is applied to the hole which the brake cable is connected to. The inner hole size is 7/16” based on specs from the Lokar Universal Emergency Brake Cable Manual. The outer diameter of the split line is 20.2mm. Varying amounts of force will be applied until yield strength is reached to find its max-loading case.

For some reason after running FEA, my part became 2D, if anyone knows why this is please help!

Conclusion

  • The maximum force that can be applied is 5016N
