Welcome to Midnight Sun! It is our hope that you have a successful workterm here with us. There are a bureaucratic things that you will have to complete before diving into your co-op term with us. As a general checklist:

The first thing that needs to be done is the coCo-op student agreement formStudent Agreement Form, which can be found on sharepoint. (You don't have access to this site, the link is for your manager to get the form for you.) The form outlines the agreement to work under a student design team, and the training received to work here. 

The co-op student needs to complete the following modules and training courses. Instructions on how to access and complete the three are on the co-op student agreement form.

  • Employee Safety Orientation
  • Workplace Violence Awareness
  • WHMIS 2015 for Employees
  • Laboratory Safety
  • Engineering Machine Shop Training

How to complete the training:

  • Complete “SO”-coded courses by going to the Safety Office website:
    https://uwaterloo.ca/safety-office/training/training-programs
  • Complete WHMIS 2015 by logging into Learn and selecting “Self Registration”; select “Employee WHMIS 2015”
  • The Engineering Student Machine Shop proof of completion will be activated on your WatCard around 24 hours after completion of the course.

Following the completion of these forms, the team lead should provide in-person training outlining the following main points:

There are weekly team meetings, time and date depend and may change based on the current academic term. We ask that you stay late for these days to attend these meetings to provide updates and meet with the rest of the team. To accommodate the longer work day, Fridays are half-daydays / later hours, please inform your supervisor of your preferred schedule. You are expected to manage your own time to meet the expected work hours each week.
