ChassisMatt Suski, Adam Marchand
  • Meeting with Prof. Kahn revealed that dynamic simulations is probably the way to go - too difficult to constrain the FEM model of the car accurately using static structural
  • Beam elements not supported with implicit dynamics, therefore we need to mesh the solid model
    • Meshing is in progress and has been successful thus far
    • Auto mesh refinement should be used to ensure mesh independence
  • Both sketch geometry and tube thickness will be varied/optimized using dynamic simulation results
  • Soft deadline for chassis freeze is May 31, hard deadline is June 2
  • Rigid bodies representing significant masses will be connected to the chassis using bonded contacts. This will better simulated loading during a collision
AerobodyFormer user (Deleted)
  • Andy Phillips, a composites specialist will be coming to the bay on Wednesday to share his advice

  • Latest revision of the aerobody was made shorter. Array will still fit

  • Sharp angle at the top of the windshield will be rounded over

  • Highest priority for mech is the chassis. After the chassis freeze, the focus will be shifted to adding mounting points for the various subassemblies.
