MS16 Wheel Covers
For MS16, we will be exploring the possibility of dynamic wheel covers on the car. These would be wheel covers that, upon actuation of the steering mechanism of the car, tilt open to allow the wheels to turn the desired amount.
This would allow for the overall aerobody to be slimmer, resulting in a smaller frontal area.
The use of dynamic wheel covers from teams such as UMichigan suggests that the pros of a slimmer aerobody outweigh the cons of producing significant drag upon turning the car.
Goals:
To compare both the pros and cons of static vs. dynamic wheel covers on MS16, within the context of what is feasible for our team.
If dynamic covers are feasible, we want to explore different options in terms how they will open and close.
