Blue Sky Solar Q&A

Q: How do you guys characterize your pack for testing for battery capacity/internal resistance?
A: We usually make a small module (2S2P) and program an eload to discharge the battery. We measure the current and voltage from the eload to make the discharge curves. This cycle we acquired a bigger eload so we are hoping to use our modules directly to perform the discharge characteristic tests. We also have a new battery tester which we can use to measure internal resistance of the cells. Haven’t used it yet but we plan to use it this cycle when we start building our packs.

Q: Spotwelding cells - specific settings used?

A: *they will get back to us on this

Q: Vibration testing - have you guys done any? Concerned about how this may affect the welds for our current battery pack, whether they may get damaged in the process

A: We try to make the module compartment in the battery box as tight as possible. We also have a light foam padding on the base and the back walls to prevent scratches and damage to the packs. Overall, it’s a really good friction fit

Q: What do you guys do for thermal sims?

A: We us ANSYS icepack - sims were bad. They were unreliable and inconclusive
