OTS Brake Parts Re-Spec

Needed:

  • 1 Rod

  • 1 Spherical Bearing

  • 2 Rod Ends

Rod Minimum Diameter:

Formula Used:

σy = (8/3*pi)(V/r^2)

  • Stress in MPa

  • V in Newtons

  • r in mm

V=Fmaster=463.5426 N (according to the above document)

4140 Steel: r=0.92486 mm; minimum diameter = 1.84972 mm = 0.072823 in

6061-T6: r=1.19616 mm; minimum diameter = 2.39231 mm = 0.094185 in

Rod End:

Smallest Available Internally Threaded Rod End on McMasterCarr: 6-32 (0.1380 inches)

Static Radial Load Capacity: 1,500 lbs.

McMaster-Carr

Spherical Bearing:

Smallest Available Open Spherical Bearing: 3/16”

Static Radial Load Capacity: 4,850 lbs.

McMaster-Carr

Smallest Available Sealed Spherical Bearing: 3/4”

Static Radial Load Capacity: 21,200 lbs.
