BMS/SoC/Telemetry Meetings

See Telemetry - MSXV for Telemetry-specific items and tasks.

  • we may not have telemetry capabilities and may need to estimate SoC locally

  • STM32 constraint

  • need a validation plan for algorithm

  • be ready to implement and test

  • held up by hardware development

  • not urgent

  • need to validate with real motor operation…

  • lots of critical path tasks

https://www.instructables.com/Long-Range-18km-Arduino-to-Arduino-Wireless-Commun/

  • transmitter placement + verify range

  • restricted frequencies? power recs? government regs

  • multiple frequencies? interference

Goal 1 (September 31st): Send a 3-bit number over 1.8km (w/ simulated interference).

Goal 2 (TBD): Finalize coulomb-counting strategy and exact requirements for telemetry

Goal 3 (TBD): Hardware Integration

  • Networking for Strategy Laptop

    • Need Katharine to explain to Strategy

      • Need to hardwire the laptop into a port at the school.

        • I have an adapter that works for a certain amount of bytes

      • Cannot be 801.2x enabled (authentication required)

      • The amount of data being pushed would be helpful to know

      • Test SSH capabilities

      • If that doesn’t work, will contact local IST to figure out alternate method

      • Cannot use router since it’s kinda pointless anyways

  • Coulomb Counting Script

    • Rudimentary script written by Ryan

    • Kostubh and Owen can test script next term

    • How to improve script?

      • We can improve based off research papers

      • Can compare script with actual battery to determine accuracy

      • Ryan needs average current draw data

  • Telemetry

    • RF transmitter is in bay

      • understand how to use

      • Make sure that it follows all RF protocols, it cannot interfere with other devices

      • Ensure that the frequency chosen had the desired range and avoids forbidden frequencies

        • There is a list, make sure to check regulations for the race location (should be pretty standard)

          • Eg. military frequencies

      • Make sure that the material of the car does not cause issues

        • Generally, concrete interferes the most, but there will also be no clear path for the signal

        • RF technically does not need a direct pathway, but range is affected

        • The signal needs to go through several layers and an external antenna cannot be attached due to the nature of the aero body design

      • Test with changing the receiver sensitivity, noise will be high during the race

    • Strategy needs more information about this
