Mock Pack Design
The next stage of the research is to design a mock battery pack based on these specifications.
Battery Pack Requirements:
Requirement | Spec |
---|---|
Nominal Voltage | ~130V |
Max Voltage | ~150V |
Capacity | Maximize meeting the requirements for voltage and battery weight. |
ASC Battery Weight Regulations:
Cell Type | Max Weight |
---|---|
Li-S | 15.00 kg |
Li-Ion | 20.00 kg |
Li-Polymer | 20.00 kg |
LiFePo4 | 40.00 kg |
The goal of this task is to find a sample cell that is commercially available right now (there is information for purchasing the cell), and use their specs to design a battery pack (#P #S, number of cells in parallel, number of cells in series).
18650 Cell Distributors contains some information on battery suppliers that were looked into in the past.
Choosing Cells to Test MSXIV Li-ion Cell Testing Procedures (for cell selection) some documentation on past tests we did to select a cell (some parts outdated).
After designing the pack, try to calculate the following specs, and outline your design process and the specs under your battery pack page:
Total number of cells
Nominal capacity [Ah]
Minimum capacity [Ah]
Nominal voltage [V]
Min voltage [V]
Max voltage [V]
Total volume [m^3]
Gravimetric Density [Wh/kg]
Volumetric density [Wh/L]
Max discharge current [A]
Max charge current [A]
Standard Charge Rate
Max Continuous Discharge Rate
Max Peak Charge Rate
Number of charge cycles
Total cost [USD]
