Chassis Tubing Material
Chassis Tubing Material
Goal: Determine the optimal tubing material to be used for the chassis of MSXV
Key factors include:
Strength
Yield strength, fracture strength, stress-strain relationship
Weight
Cost
Required treatment
Ie. Surface coating, pre-treatment for welding, etc.
Manufacturability
Ie. Feasibility of welding / assembly
Availability from suppliers
NOTE: Both MSXII and MSXIV used Chromoly 4130 Steel for the chassis. Thus it is likely a good option but more research and consideration would be beneficial.
More in-depth analysis / comparison in progress…
Also look into chassis assembly clamps from MSXIV:
What are the requirements for clamps with a chosen material?
Are the old ones available to be used with MSXV?
