Current sub-team situation:

We are starting a new design cycle, in a new class of vehicle (Challenger, Single Occupant Vehicle SOV). The entire battery system will be redesigned to meet new regulations

Another major change is that Micah will be stepping down as the lead for battery box and moving into an advisory role. He will still be available for questions and design reviews.

What’s next?

The goal for the rest of this term is to have the team become knowledgeable about the regulations and battery design. We should also begin to brainstorm designs for MS15, however any final decisions will need to consider the plans of other sub-teams.

So all members should:

  • read the Regs related to Battery Box

  • research about everything batteries

    • types of batteries to consider (pouch cells, 18650s, ect.)

    • look at what similar SOV EVs use

      • maybe contact other teams and talk to them when we have a decent background

    • manufacturing processes, which would fit our needs/ are feasible

    • share useful readings with the team

  • divide team into groups and everyone come up with a design proposal for MS15

    • I’m thinking we should narrow down towards a few different paths and each group takes one path and tries to find the optimal way to move forward with it

    • for instance we get down to pouch cells or 18650s and one group proposes a design for each, how the long term plan for it would look, and the pros and cons

    • this is just rough thinking, the diverging point might not even be in type of cells I’m just not sure yet

  • one-on-ones, I’ll be announcing these soon so we can get to know each other and what your goals are for the team, and become a closer knit team :))

  • social! We should all meet up at some point and do something, any ideas?

  • finally I want to reiterate that this is a really great opportunity for this team to take on a new design challenge from the start and that if you put in the time you’ll come out with some really great experience and skills that will help you not only reach your industry goals, but also help build up midnight sun to race in 2023/2024 and by the end probably help younger students have the same experience
