High Mounted Brake Light

  • 2018-19 regulations specified that the brake light had to be 700mm from the bottom but for 2020, it has to be 150mm below the roofline

  • Original design was specced to be 700mm, currently 850mm below the roofline

  • Plan is to shift the brake lights upward, which will change the array layout

  • If adjustments are made for terminals, you would just need longer wires for them to match up

  • Planning to have 2 bridges underneath each edge of the panels (first goes between the edge of the windshield and roof panels, second will be between the roof and rear panels

  • Roof and trunk panels will be fastened to the bridges, the how is TBD (they just have to be removed)

  • Roof panel - currently the mold has been made in CAD but with the proposed change, Filip is blocked from finalizing the mold (Structures deadline for this is the end of the term)

  • Solar concern - does shifting the panel interfere with the edges?

    • Nope, the existing gap just gets tighter towards the back

    • Previous known issue involving cutting a corner off for clearance, may need to do the same in this case (looks fine in CAD rn)

    • In terms of space, the strobe and brake light live together while the rear-view camera is placed in the center (built into the tail-end of the pontoons)

    • Double border around the roof panel (introduced concern

  • Regulations

    • 0.25mm clearance between each cell, cell to modules clearance is 2mm (1mm around the edges)

  • Ned to take measurements of the array to see what needs to be trimmed off (tape-measure to measure out distances) before any handling of the array is done)

    • Would be ideal to have 2 people do it this term, but it can be done next term

  • Unsure of whether the array is numbered

Trunk Panel Hinging + Sealing

  • Roof panel needs to be removable

  • Trunk is hinged and angled for charging (jusstification for why the space under the trunk is accessible)

    • Can also say it can be used for storage access (will hurt practicality score if we don’t have trunk space)

  • SJ looking at flanges, no DRI for roof

  • Problem with any hinge is that it needs to clear itself (i.e. door needs to clear itself when opened)

  • Side panel flanges will be carbon fiber as a separate piece that gets glued into place

    • panel CAD has not been done yet, molds will need to be done for flanges

  • Flange between bottom + trunk panel

    • Putting brake lights and camera behind the vertical section of the bottom panel - can’t be super sloppy since we need to put stuff there

    • Needs to be further investigated

  •

Mold CAD

  • Structures wants a finalized mold for all panels by end of July
    (hard deadline)

  • In-house machining for molds (small pieces, i.e. not side panels)
