2021-12-01 Meeting #1 with Ryan George
General Agenda:
Introduce subteams and what they are working on
Identify areas where the team may be trouble / issues and set restrictions as necessary
Introductions
Hardware
Not starting most of the development from scratch
Knowledge transfer still needs to happen for newer leads before the current Hardware lead steps down
Some of the boards can be
Main costs
Board send out
Component costs
If there were missing components that were planned for MS XIV that may have not be
Firmware
Closely follows the Hardware timeline
Want to be begin development on boards by Fall 2022
In the meantime:
upgrading Firmware systems to run more effectively
research projects for Firmware
Main costs
Potentially looking into software licenses (for sponsor or through the university)
Battery
Researching cells for potential purchase for the sample cells
Purchase by EOT?
Cell selection will determine the module design
The old battery pack cannot be reused due to the weight limitations and restrictions for the Challenger class vehicle
Planning on selling the battery pack to recoup costs for the next battery
The team does need more knowledge and hands-on work, but there is a reliable advisor that can help teach the leads
Note: Battery shortage will increase costs / shipping time
Mechanical
Inventory and finding what is not useful for the current design cycle - intending to dispose/sell, etc.
Mainly doing research on all Mechanical systems
what did work, what didn’t work for MS XIV
Planning mechanical leads training for design/knowledge/fundamentals early next year
Working on design fundamentals and challenges
Learning in all areas - CFD, CAD, etc.
Sponsorships/Costs
Unconfirmed, but several should be returning to help with in-kind costs
Potential Component Reuse
Will heavily impact what can be designed and what constraints
Plan to reuse some of the previous system
Ryan’s Recommended Software: Adams
for Dynamics
But it is difficult to pick up
Strategy
Not a blocker to the critical path, development, and build of the vehicle
Once design begins, Strategy will start to be able to simulate and gain an understanding of the vehicle
MS XIV
built basic components for analysis of the vehicle (e.g.
Limited growth until new designs start beginning
Business
Continuing operations, transition
Marketing & social media presence
Ryan’s Comments
Cash is tight - focus on sponsorships/in-kind
Prioritize labour in order to have more people working on parts
Prioritize budget, time, resources when moving forward with designing
