DIY MPPT
DIY MPPT
We're currently considering Nomura MPPTs for MSXII. Our plan is to use 10 MPPTs running at around 30V each in 2 strings of 5. With each solar module consisting of ~32 cells and a Voc of ~0.6V per cell, we get a boost ratio of 1.6x. This is around 95% efficient by their datasheet.
If we run out of things to do, the SM72442/5 from TI is a promising AIO MPPT controller that claims to reach up to 99% efficiency (98% according to the reference design). It can also be read and configured over I2C, so we could read input/output voltage/current directly from the MPPT.
