General Electrical Knowledge Database

Outline

This section covers some basics and act as an “encyclopedia” for electrical concepts that are not isolated to a Solar Car. The information will be useful for other purposes as well, and will be generally applicable to many other kinds of electrical projects. Me(Aden), Forest, Evan will be writing up/providing resources here, as well as information written by previous leads

With a diverse group of members, members will have a lot of different learning styles. Some people may find it easier to begin with theory and tutorials rather than jumping straight into a project, which is what this page is for.

A lot of beginner mistakes happen simply because you don’t know that something should be considered. I would highly recommend spending time reading resources as you find yourself using components in your designs. For ex: Where should a decoupling capacitor be placed? What is a decoupling capacitor? Why is it used? etc. putting those in google, and reading the relevant links will give you so much more knowledge and able to make better designs.

Microelectronic Circuits by Sedra/Smith 7th edition

Recommended chapters: 1-7

It might be worth looking at some of the practical applications that are discussed in the book in addition to understanding the basics of how certain parts work. No one here is going to interrogate you on circuit theory so there is no need to dive too deep.
