Purpose

  • We need to measure the inrush current of our boards in order to determine if we need to implement inrush current limiting circuits

 

Requirements

  1. Easy connection to power supplies and to the board

    1. Banana connectors will work great

  2. Easy connection to the oscilloscope

  3. Low inductance traces on the board

    1. Short, fat traces that do not go in loops

  4. Low and high range options

    1. For measuring small and large inrush current values

  1. What is inrush current?

  2. Why is it not desired? - what happens if its too high?

  3. Errors caused by inductance during current sense measurements

  4. Non-inductive current sense resistors
