What kind of car is MSXII?
MSXII will be a Cruiser Class vehicle, inspired by a sports coupe style. Our designs focus on practicality and usability for the user. While designing for efficiency and reliability.
What defines a Cruiser class vehicle?
There are two main classes of solar vehicles:
- Challengers: Designs maximize efficiency at the cost of practicality
- Cruisers: Designs focus more on practicality, typically sharing more characteristics to a consumer vehicle
How do you plan to judge success (of MSXII)?
MSXII is being designed with usability, practicality and reliability first. At competition we hope to achieve a maximum score in the practicality section, while achieving a respectable score in the efficiency aspect of the competition.Outside of competition we judge success more subjectively focusing on a consumer similar design.
Is there some kind of competition?
American Solar Challenge - ASC in 2018 (in North America)
World Solar Challenge - WSC in 2019 (in Australia)
Both competitions are endurance based races spread over multiple days covering over 3000km, during which our vehicle is powered exclusively by the power of the sun.
How are the competitions scored?
WSC has a separate scoring rubric for Cruiser class vehicles. This rubric breaks down to the following:
- 80% - Efficiency Score
- 20% - Practicality Score
