Window cleaner works well to lubricate the tire. The first side of the tire is easy to pop on. When trying to get the 2nd side over the lip of the rim, it is much easier when the 1st side is in the deepest part of the rim profile. As we got portions of the 1st side around, it became increasingly evident that it wouldn’t be possible to get the whole side on without also shoving the parts of the 2nd side that were already on down into the deep part of the rim. This is what the situation looked like before we did this (don’t use a screwdriver lol, there’s 2 tire irons):
It was very easy to get the tire on if everything is down in the groove. However, now the tire is seated with both sides down in the centre of the groove. We need the side of the tire to sit in the beads of the rim in order to inflate it. This is proving very hard, since we need to stretch the tire to get it up on the bead, but have no way of getting leverage to pull it up.
This video describes a method for a regular car tire, but it doesn’t really work for us since our tire is too flexible to push up onto the bead:
