Hey there and welcome to Interiors once more! If you’re here, you’re probably about to start the BOT onboarding project we started running back in the S20 term!

Why this project? Well, it’s to help us understand what you currently know (knowledge + skills) and where your interests may lie! This should also hopefully you select the project you’d like to tackle this term!

Instructions

  1. Breaking down the problem

  • Primary Research
    Anything from surveying to usability testing to user interviews → keep in mind that you only have about a week and a bit to do this project and you don’t want to spend a ton of time on this section!
  • Secondary Research
    Research more into the problem, materials, hazards, ideal designing tips, stati
  • Map-out big picture
    Break down the process and refer to research findings to ensure you understand the user, understand the why. Also, bring up any key info

2. Rough Designs

  • Sketch out all ideas
    (something that may have been a ‘dumb' idea at the beginning might be your final one so sketch out EVERYTHING)
  • Determine the main features + flush out the design
    Add some more details and finalize which sketches and features you’d like to move forward with
  • CAD
    (something that may have been a ‘dumb' idea at the beginning might be your final one so sketch out EVERYTHING)

3. Prototype (If you have time)

  • Physical / Digital Prototype
    Up to you how you want to prototoype!

3. Test? (If you can)

  • Usability Testing
    Will most likely not be doable for many of you (not accessible, not safe - please don’t risk your safety to do in-person testing)

4. Presentation (

  • Intro to your team
  • Focused Problem
  • Sketches (images of final ideas)
  • Final Design (CAD → explain the features + how your product works)
  • Prototype (images)
  • Testing (if any)
  • Next Steps (top 3 things you’d do if you had more time)
