For MSXII, it was difficult to enter the card as you could not hold onto a part of the car for support while stepping into the car. All occupants were also likely to bump into parts of the interior while entering / exiting due to the lack of room (e.g. chassis).
Additional considerations must be made for Egress as well. We want to make sure that occupants are able to exit the car as quickly and safely as possible (and of course without breaking anything)
Ideation:
Here would be are some sketches and some explanation as to the ideas we generated
Sketch | Description |
---|
Image Added | Handle Ideas - Top Handle → Handle is attached to the top of the car (preferably the chassis or a sturdy part of the car that can take the stress)
Concerns / Questions - Can we attach anything to the chassis?
- What are the most structurally stable parts of the interior?
|
Image Added | Step Ideas - External Step (as simple as a wooden plank / brick) → The extra step will help shrink the size of the gap users need to step over to enter the car
- Built-In Step → MSXII has a flat piece below the door that looks like a step but is not sturdy enough. Are there possibilities for MSXIV to have a sturdier step that can withstand at least half a persons' weight?
Concerns / Questions - Will there be a flat piece below the door of MSXIV?
|
Image Added | Adjustable Steering Wheel - Change Angle → Users can move the steering wheel upwards when not in use so that it is not in the way when they are climbing in/out of the car. In the mockup, the steering wheel juts out very far and upon entering/exiting, the driver makes physical contact with it
Concerns - Can the angle of the steering wheel be adjusted or only the length?
- Will this affect the Chassis/steering design from a mechanical/dynamics standpoint (believe the dynamics team worked on Steering)

Image Added | Seat that can extend some length out of the car for better egress. Perhaps using the same adjustment mechanism that moves seats forward/backward in normal cars but designed for lateral movement. seat cushion slides out instead of whole seat Concerns - may have to build into chassis
|
Image Added | Rotating seat cushion - simple solution to implement since the whole set does not need to rotate
|
Image Added | Handle on roof, same as what regular cars have. Con: may not be able to secure properly to ceiling |
